Echuca Accommodation

Accommodation in Echuca

Echuca, twinned with Moama across the Murray River, is set in pastoral Victoria, and is the closest settlement on the Murray River to Melbourne, just a couple of hours to the south. From the 1860’s until the early 20th century Echuca was one the busiest inland port in Australia. Today, Echuca is still famous for its Paddlesteamers cruises, were you will be taken back in time, experiencing what it was like to cruise up and down the Murray River in these  majestic riverboats.

Accommodation options that are available include several motels, holiday houses or apartments, a holiday park, a luxury spa and retreat, caravan parks and camping sites.

But by far the most attractive form of Echuca accommodation is the houseboat. Houseboats are fitted with every possible modern convenience, linens and tableware. All you have to do is bring your food.

Things to Do

The recreated Port Of Echuca is the area’s chief tourist attraction, built around the small remaining section of the giant red gum wharf, which served the paddle steamers of old. The three-level structure gives a marvelous view of the Murray River and peaceful surrounding bush. Since modern road and rail commodity transport took over from paddle steamers, Echuca’s main industries have been agriculture and tourism. The river trade may be a thing of the past but it is still possible to take a cruise on an authentic paddle steamer, and dine on a riverboat.

Are you all set to cruise the river, admiring the parks and native forests along the banks, maybe stopping to swim or paddle about in a canoe, or perhaps join a chauffeured tour of the nearby wineries.

Shopping and Dining

Echuca’s main tourist area is situated along High Street, a wide boulevard lined with speciality shops, restaurants & cafes, motels, hotels, and eateries, plus churches, cinema and a large supermarket.
