Accommodation in Morgan
The tiny town of Morgan (population less than 500) is located on the Great North West Bend of the Murray River, just 165 kms from Adelaide. It was once the busiest river port in South Australia. River traffic declined and the railway closed, but the historic buildings and the feel of a colonial town remain.
Morgan is well known for houseboats, which provide both wonderfully comfortable accommodation and leisurely transportation around the Morgan area. On land, accommodation is available at the old Terminus Hotel, B&Bs, cottages, motels and lodges and a caravan park.

What to do
The area has more days of sun than the Gold Coast, and a balmy climate perfect for enjoying water sports. The district includes a number of natural reserves such as the Morgan Conservation Park, which is famous for fossils and Hogwash Flat Park, which has some of the best fishing in the region. Morgan has a basic 9-hole golf course, and nearby Waikerie offers 18 holes and irrigated greens. The self-guided Morgan heritage trail shows you the huge, 12m high wharves, which was constructed specially for paddle steamers, the customs house and the courthouse, among many other historic buildings. The Mayflower, a paddle steamer built in 1884, still cruises up and down the river.
Dining and shopping
In Morgan itself, historic pubs look out over the riverside reserve. You can have a light lunch or go next door to the Morgan Riverview Café. Mallyons serves and sells local organic produce as well as local arts and crafts. Use the Riverland Wine and Food Trail Map to guide you to the best eating places and wineries in the area
